Web Server & Facebook API
  • Hello, I'm looking for a web server to host an application. It's for my dissertation and it's about developing a facebook application. Is there any book/site which can help me to learn the facebook api as most of the available materials are on the api that has already been or will soon be deprecated. Thanx :)
  • Hi @Sabiru, are you looking for affordable web hosting?

I've used ICDSOFT in the past and I was very satisfied i.e. Linux / Apache / PHP / MySQL. They are very affordable too.

As for the Facebook API, I'm not really an expert but the official Facebook docs look decent. Spend some time reading them and, most importantly, build some trivial and, then, some not so trivial applications and I'm sure you'll understand everything.

Incidentally, a few people have asked me, in the not too distant past, whether I was going to launch a Facebook application development training at Knowledge Seven... Up to now, my answer was 'no'. Do people think I should consider doing such a course?
  • Hello @sabiru.

    1. For web hosting you can contact me privately (before i add my personal details here, are we allowed @Avinash ?)

    2. Books : contact me again (or time-permitting, i'll update this thread)

    3. https://github.com/facebook/ (use SmartGIT to pull)

  • @avinash, most of the tutorials on the net are on the apis are going to be deprecated this year and on the facebook developer website, the examples are very vague and they are not in PHP. A course is not really needed, because I guess in the near future there will be more tutorials available on the new facebook api.

@nadim, your help is most welcome. :)
